School Curriculum

We provide:

  • An academic learning programme which is broad and varied;
  • Continuity and clear lines of progression;
  • A wide range of learning styles and experiences;
  • At KS4 a core programme covering 10 GCSEs for all (Double Science, English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, ICT, Business Studies, Business Communication, Statistics and RE)
  • Eston Park School provides an academic learning programme which is broad and varied but which has continuity and clear lines of progression. We aim to ensure that every pupil encounters a wide range of learning styles and experiences, and is able to develop abilities to the full in every area.
  • Pupils are usually organised into sets depending upon ability. At Key Stage 3 all pupils study the full range of subjects, including French. Additionally from Year 8 approximately 70% of pupils have the opportunity to study German.
  • At Key Stage 4 pupils can exercise some choice. They are required to study Double Science, English Language and Literature, Mathematics and Business; they select in addition three subjects from a range of options, ensuring that they follow a total of 9 GCSE courses. Pupils who have shown an aptitude for Mathematics will take a 2nd GCSE in Statistics. We do not offer vocational courses as we believe in the importance of academic rigour for all pupils
  • The school policy is that all subjects are taught by a member of staff with specialist knowledge. We do not employ "general" teachers. We have been successful in recruiting and retaining high quality specialist teachers in all areas.
  • Homework is compulsory for all pupils in all subjects and each pupil is given a planned timetable in September. Each pupil also has a diary which contains details of homework set. Parents and Form Tutors are expected to inspect and sign the diary regularly.
  • Eston Park operates its own system (EPPIS), which allows us to track pupils over the five years that they are with us. The system allows us to monitor not only attitude, attendance, effort and behaviour but also academic performance, closely related to National Curriculum levels or potential GCSE grades. This information is communicated to parents regularly and is always available to them
  • The school has a detailed system for setting targets for all pupils, covering the whole range of achievement. All of the indications are that there will be further substantial and on going improvement at all levels. Details of targets are available from the school.
  • The quality of teaching and the performance of pupils are monitored constantly by senior managers and by governors.
