Business
All pupils study Business 10 and 11 for three hours per week and work towards the following three GCSE grades:
- GCSE Applied Business (Dual Award)
Pupils follow the ICAA examination board specification which involves an externally assessed examination (Business Finance) taken in the January of year 10 (weighted 33%) and two pieces of coursework; Investigating Business (weighted 33%) and People & Business (weighted 33%) - GCSE Business & Communication Systems
Pupils follow the EdExcel examination board specification which involves one piece of coursework completed in year 10 (weighted 25%), a practical examination (weighted 35%) and a written examination (weighted 40%) both of which are taken in year 11.
Applied Business and Business and Communication Systems together are three GCSEs and pupils are expected to reflect this in their work; both in school and at home and the time they give to the subject.
Students who opt for AS/A2 Business Studies in the Sixth Form follow the OCR specification; for which they study two modules for AS and two modules for A2 - these are examined in June of each year. For this course, students will attend 5 hours of lessons per week.
Students who opt for our level 2 Business Studies and ICT course (worth upto 8 GCSEs) in the Sixth Form follow the OCR National Diploma qualification; for which they study several modules throughout the one year course in 20 hours per week.
At Eston Park, courses in Business involves practical activity, problem solving and group work. Pupils are required to make contact with local and national firms and are expected to use their own initiative and develop a professional business-like manner in order to complete research tasks. The level to which they achieve this is reflected in their grades.
The courses we offer are carefully selected and designed to be popular with employees and provide an ideal basis for progression to further study.
