Testimonials

The standard of education our daughter received in her first year has been exemplary and all the staff have been very friendly and extremely co-operative with any queries we have brought to them. The transition from primary school to secondary school has been made very comfortable for her and a very big decision in her life as to choice of schools has proven to be the right one.

Geography Department

Geography is part of the school’s Humanities Department.  It is studied at KS3 by all students and exists as an option in KS4.

In a world where there are more people than ever before we need to understand the world around us and the people who share this world with us. The topics we study in Geography at both key stages are all about achieving these aims.

The department is made up of the following staff:

  • Mr C Cunningham
  • Mr L Duffy
  • Mr C Gaskin

The subject is taught in a variety of ways including the use of fieldwork. Computers are becoming an increasingly important content delivery tool as we look to give students independence in their learning whilst at the same time not compromising the essential knowledge, skills and values the subject looks to develop.

Further KS4 detail:

The subject is tiered, meaning that students will be entered for GCSE examination at either Foundation or Higher level. If a student is entered at Foundation they can gain a GCSE grade of C to G. If they are entered at Higher level they can attain a grade of A* to D.
Whichever tier students are entered for they are assessed with one piece of coursework worth (25%), Paper 1 (40%) and Paper 2 (35%).

Topics studied include...

Paper One

  • Geographical skills
  • River
  • Coasts
  • Ecosystems
  • Natural Hazards

Paper Two

  • Population
  • Settlement
  • Agriculture
    Industry
  • Managing resources
