Sat at home waiting nervously for news,
The letter drops through the letter box painfully,
Tears stream down my eyes as I slowly tear the letter open,
Scanning through the words,
I can hardly keep it together,
My love is gone, he’s gone forever.
I scramble tragically out of the trenches,
Holding my gun,
Shaking and trembling,
As the smoke fills up my nostrils,
And I feel a shiver down my back
I fire the gun, fighting for my life
The bangs, the booms, the sadness and dead bodies.
We must thank those heroes,
That fought for our lives,
Although they’re not here to hold,
They shall always remain in our hearts.
Bethany Blair
The dawn of night was closing in,
Many of the soldiers were gone,
Machine guns rattling and bombs booming,
Why couldn’t we go home?
The dawn of night was closing in,
Bullets whistling and men screaming,
Men were dying for their country,
But why were we doing this?
The sun was rising,
Poppies were rising,
Many a man were dead,
Blood was everywhere,
But would we be remembered?
The war was over hoorah, hoorah!
Remember the soldiers who risked their lives
Remember their families too
Imagine how treacherous their lives must have been
Going to war, fighting for life
Staying at home, petrified
No matter their places
The war still went on and
We still honour those who gave up their time
To save us so we could survive.
Remember the poppies that still survived
Remember the poor soldiers who fought
Whether young or old, rich or poor
They saved their country from hell.
So respect their tradition and
Show the soldiers honour
Buy a poppy to save soldiers today
And take two minutes silence
It’s the least you can do to show that you care.
Many, many years later,
We were still remembered!
World war two broke out,
But we were still remembered!
