In Graphic Products at KS3 pupils are given opportunities to develop their knowledge and understanding of materials along with the processes related to the production, packaging and promotion of products suitable for mass production.
Pupils will learn to work safely within the workshop environment and they will have to respond to design briefs, researching products already on the market, producing their own design specifications. Pupils will create design sheets, experiment with materials, develop their designs, realise their designs using industrial processes, suggest possible improvements and finally evaluate their work.
Pupils use traditional methods and ICT to produce the graphics needed for packaging and promotion; that includes using Photoshop. Pupils in KS3 will develop skills that build on their experiences from KS2 but also introduce new methods and processes. Knowledge built at KS3 can form the basis of the skills needed to study Graphic Products at GCSE level.
Homework will be set weekly and will often take the form of research and may include extended tasks for the improvement of technical knowledge and understanding, product analysis, design and planning skills.
