Salut mes amis!
On Thursday 20th October, thirty eight students from Years 8, 9 and 10 and five teachers travelled by coach to Folkestone to take the channel tunnel to the capital of France, Paris for the weekend. After a long journey, they arrived in the bustling city to spend a day strolling around the famously romantic streets of Paris. They visited the impressive Eiffel Tower, walked up the historic Arc de Triomphe to sample the beautiful views and did some shopping on the Champs-Elysees. In the afternoon they stopped at the world famous Louvre Museum and walked along the Seine River to the striking gothic cathedral Notre Dame. The students practised their French speaking skills when ordering, “les crêpes au chocolat” successfully! This wonderful French food was a great snack to help keep the students walking miles around the city! A few brave students and staff tasted snails in garlic butter. Yum! Yum!
On the second day the group visited the Park Asterix, a theme park based on the stories of Asterix the Gaul. It is well known for its large variety of roller coasters, which the students and staff fully enjoyed. In particular the water fume ride was very popular even though it thoroughly soaked a few students! The group got time to practise their French with the locals and got scared by the Halloween surprises around the theme park. There were many zombies and vampires dotted around the park waiting to spring out on our unsuspecting students. Scary!
At the end of the second day after all of the excitement, the group settled down in the coach for the journey back to Eston, having enjoyed what was for some, their first trip to France. Hopefully it will only be the start and they will practise their French many more times on many more trips to this fantastic country. A bientôt!
