Our aim in York House is to get all students as engaged as possible in all aspects of Academy life. This is because we passionately believe that education is all about developing the young person as a whole.
To get this right we have to instil a positive can do mentality in all our students. This attitude will see the vast majority of students; attend 95% or more of the time, achieve or exceed their academic potential and contribute significantly to life beyond the classroom.
This needs to be done in a safe, secure environment where we work hard to involve parents and to encourage them to support their children's learning and development. We want to help promote a healthy life style for all pupils that reflects the whole school approach to this important aspect of life.
The pupils are cared for in nine form groups, in a vertical system which accommodates pupils from Year 7 to Year 11. The York House Area is located on the first floor and is situated in the Science and Humanities area, which also includes the Learning Resource Centre. There is a social area provided for pupils to use at break and lunchtime which is always staffed. In addition to the Prefect team the House has representatives on the School Council. There is also a House Council; there are eighteen members of this group with each tutor group being represented.
Our young people demonstrate a strong desire to help the community: locally, nationally and internationally. In this school year, we have raised significant fund for Zoe’s place. We have also sent shoe boxes with Christmas gifts bound for Eastern Europe and are now looking forward to supporting International Charity work.
