Pupil Support

The Pupil Support  Department comprises a team of dedicated staff whose role is to facilitate and support the needs of all pupils, with all aspects of learning and behaviour support.
Pupil Support staff have their own areas of responsibility and expertise which cover learning, behaviour, emotional and social development. Time is always made available for parents, staff and pupils who have concerns that they wish to discuss.

All pupils on the Pupil Support register follow the school curriculum and are set according to ability. Support is via in-class support with additional one to one, small group workshops run by the Pupils Support Team and/or outside agencies.

The Aims of the Pupil Support Team are :

  • To establish a departmental ethos of excellence in all areas of activity.
  • To deliver the Code of Practice with minimal workload on staff and maximum effect for pupils.
  • To improve and develop departmental & external agency links agencies in order to deliver the best possible education for all pupils.
  • To oversee and ensure that pupils have access to the whole curriculum and are able to take advantage of the full range of activities in Eston Park School.
  • To extend and improve upon initiatives relating to staff, pupil and parental satisfaction.
  • To ensure that the whole range of needs of our pupils are borne in mind by all staff, Management and Governors.

Pupil Support Link Team :

This group consists of a representative link teacher from each curriculum area and is led by the Pupil Support Team. They meet on a four-weekly basis and as well as INSET sessions provide an opportunity for information to be shared among departments, this can then be disseminated at departmental level later.

The team ensures that information regarding pupils on the Pupil Support register, and the strategies required to teach these children, are discussed at academic as well as pastoral level. All curriculum areas are represented on the team, as the demands and strategies for their particular teaching specialism may well differ.

The Aim of the Link Team is :

  • To develop expertise in ensuring that the needs of pupils are met within departments.

Their Objectives are :

  • To play a role in the development of school Pupil Support policies and practices
  • To pass knowledge gained at meetings to departments
  • To ensure departments are aware of the needs of Pupil Support pupils
  • To ensure that documentation is reviewed and monitored
  • To inform departments of learning / behaviour issues
